About us

Wyre Triathlon Club was formed in April 2023 having originally being badged as Fleetwood Triathlon Club. Fleetwood triathlon club then became Rossall Triathlon Club as at that time there were close ties to Rossall school. WyTri then came to be by merging what was Rossall Triathlon Club with Poulton Triathlon Club into a new club, bringing access to swimming, cycling and running to more people in the local area.

We are an extremely friendly club with members from all over the Fylde Cost, of whom many have only entered the world of triathlon training over the last 5 years. Therefore, there is a total understanding of what it is like to take those first few strokes / steps into the daunting world of triathlon.

We pride ourselves on being an open community driven club. Our aim is to make the sport of triathlon accessible to as many people as possible, or you may just want to join and train with people in one of the three disciplines. We are open to all – triathletes, swimmers, runners and cyclists. You will find no shortage or experience in the club and people who are passionate about helping others in their chosen sport.

For some it is a question of competing in the local sprints, some a matter of keeping fit, whilst others are keen to put themselves through the endurance test of middle and full distance. We even have athletes representing Great Britain in their chosen distances.

The choice is yours, Wyre Triathlon Club strives to provide an opportunity for you to train, mix and socialise with like-minded people.

Come along and see for yourself.

The history of the club

Fleetwood Triathlon Club was formed in 2011 and quickly established itself as a thriving local club. A high percentage of members were new to the world of triathlons, but by being coached and supported by experts, they excelled in sprint, Olympic, middle and Iron distance triathlons.

With club swimming being based at Rossall school on a friday evening and the formation of a triathlon academy at the school, members of the club decided on the change of name to Rossall Triathlon Club to form a tangible link with the academy and provide a path of progression for the youth of the sport.

The club has continued to evolve, and we now no longer swim at Rossall pool and instead have built close ties with the YMCA at Fleetwood which forms the base for our swim training. Further, Fleetwood YMCA is becoming a hub for our triathlon activity. After successfully collaborating with Poulton Triathlon Club it was decided in 2023 to merge both clubs in to one club and become Wyre Triathlon Club or WyTri. Our aim is to be the biggest and most welcoming triathlon club in the North West and to build closer ties to Fleetwood YMCA so that we open up more training opportunities.

Wyre Triathlon Club is open to all, whatever your aspirations come and join like-minded people who enjoy the sport.
